Mets' Pete Alonso: Rare steal in loss

    14m ago

Alonso went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and one stolen base in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros.

Alonso's steal was just his second of the year, as speed is rarely a factor in his play. He's got plenty of reason to feel optimistic lately though -- the first baseman has gone 15-for-46 (.326) over his last 12 contests while adding 14 RBI in that span. Overall, Alonso is at a .244/.330/.472 slash line with 17 home runs, 46 RBI, 46 runs scored and 19 doubles through 80 games.

  • Jose Iglesias NYM 2B

Iglesias went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros.

Iglesias has functioned mainly in a utility role off the bench lately, but he's had a couple of big games anyway. He's gone 7-for-17 over his last 10 contests despite recording a plate appearance in just seven of those games. Over 43 plate appearances this year, he's batting .425 with seven RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base and four doubles, but the light-hitting infielder has yet to hit a home run. Iglesias' best path to playing time is at second base, where he's on the short side of a platoon with Jeff McNeil, who is hitting just .221 on the year and .211 in June.

  • Mark Vientos NYM 3B

Mets' Mark Vientos: Reaches 10-homer mark

    22m ago

Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 9-6 loss to the Astros.

Vientos has flexed his power recently with five homers over his last nine games. In that span, he's batting .324 (12-for-37) with seven RBI and 10 runs scored. The third baseman is at a .297/.355/.578 slash line with 10 long balls, 23 RBI, 24 runs scored, no stolen bases and six doubles through 141 plate appearances this year. As long as the 24-year-old continues to hit well, he should have no trouble holding onto a starting job at the hot corner.

  • Jake Meyers HOU CF

Astros' Jake Meyers: Scores four runs in win

    29m ago

Meyers went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and four total runs scored in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Mets.

Meyers opened the scoring with his second-inning homer, and he was involved in every other inning the Astros scored during their comeback win. The outfielder has gone 10-for-29 (.345) with six extra-base hits over his last nine contests after an 0-for-14 skid in the middle of June. For the year, he's at a .262/.331/.444 slash line with eight homers, 30 RBI, 26 runs scored and seven stolen bases across 237 plate appearances.

  • Josh Hader HOU RP

Astros' Josh Hader: Nails down 12th save

    32m ago

Hader struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Mets.

The Astros' late comeback resulted in a save chance, and Hader converted with ease. He's picked up five saves over 11 outings in June while surrendering four runs and posting a 16:1 K:BB across 10.2 innings for the month. Overall, he's 12-for-13 in save chances with a 3.68 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 59:11 K:BB through 36.2 innings this season, with the Astros' mediocre play being the main reason for his reduced saves total, though the team is trending up by going 9-2 over the last two weeks.

  • Tylor Megill NYM SP

Mets' Tylor Megill: Sent to Triple-A

    36m ago

The Mets optioned Megill to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Megill started Saturday's 9-6 loss to Houston, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts across 5.1 innings. He didn't factor into the decision. As the Mets maneuver around Edwin Diaz's 10-game suspension, they're expected to call up a reliever to fill Megill's spot and eat innings in the coming days before having Christian Scott or Jose Butto brought up to start in Megill's regular rotation slot. By rule, Megill will have to stay at Triple-A for 15 days, which means he likely won't be back on the active roster until after the All-Star break.
