Tybee Ireland: The Ultimate Guide to St. Patrick’s Day 2024
It’s time to go green because St. Patrick’s Day is on its way! The Coastal Empire is home to one of the largest St. Paddy’s Day celebrations in the country. Between festivities taking place in nearby Savannah and our beloved Tybee, there’s plenty of fun to be had leading up to the holiday, which is Sunday, March 17. So don your greenest garb, throw back a glass of Guinness and enjoy the luck o’ the Irish as you take part in these upcoming St. Patrick’s Day events.
Shamrock Shimmy
The fun starts on Saturday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the unofficial pre-parade party, the Shamrock Shimmy, at the Shoppes at 1207. Get your green glam going with face painting and mermaid hair decorations and enjoy special sips and tasty treats before you hit the parade. Take advantage of in-store specials and see if you can spot any leprechauns. You can also spin the wheel for a chance to win coveted prizes. At 10:30 a.m., Seldom Sober, Savannah’s Irish folk and trad band, will take the stage, performing their fabulous brand of Irish and Celtic tunes. The Shamrock Shimmy is the perfect way to kick off your St. Paddy’s celebration.
Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade
Following the Shamrock Shimmy on March 9 from 3–5 p.m., Tybee will host the first parade of St. Pat’s season. 2024 makes the 21st year of the annual Tybee Island Irish Heritage Celebration Parade, and this year’s event will be greener than ever. Enjoy two hours of festive fun complete with music, marchers and much more. The parade route starts at Tybee City Hall, traveling down Butler Ave. to Tybrisa St. Come decked out in your greenest getup and prepare to party at this family friendly parade.
An Irish Afternoon at the Beach with Harry O’Donoghue
The St. Pat’s party continues on Sunday, March 10 at the Tybee Post Theater. Head to the Post at 4 p.m. for an Irish afternoon in concert with Harry O’Donoghue and Micah Bonn. Enjoy the musical stylings of O’Donoghue as he serenades the audience with traditional ballads and original compositions complemented by Bonn’s multi-instrumental talents. It will be a memorable afternoon of great music and Irish humor that warms the heart and pleases the ears. Tickets are currently on sale and VIP tables are available.
Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Just 20 minutes from the beach, the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place in the Hostess City’s historic downtown on Saturday, March 16 from 10:15 a.m. to noon. Savannah boasts one of the biggest St. Pat’s parades in the nation, and this year is extra-special as it marks the parade’s 200th anniversary. More than 200 bedazzled floats, bands, societies, soldiers and public servants participate in the parade every year, and you can expect parade goers to go all out for this monumental anniversary.
